As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away. - Psalm 90:10

a woman reading the Word of God

Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses, the man of God. This man had lived 3 generations. [One generation is 40 years]. The first 40 years of his life was spent as a prince, the next 40 years were spent in the dessert and the last 40 years in leading the nation of Israel into the Promise Land. Actually, he died before he was able to cross the Jordan River and Joshua, his assistant was the one who led the nation inside the Promise Land.

What are we living for? Why are we here on earth? How long will we live? How can I be rich?

These are questions that bug people's mind. If we think we will stay here for long, enjoy our life our way, see our dreams come to pass ....... we might be wrong. Because in another passage it says,

'There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.' - Proverbs 14:12

If on our own efforts we try to live the most without thinking of our end ... then today's passage remind us that whether we live to be 70 or 80 it is still full of labor and sorrow and pretty soon life is gone ... Take it from Moses, he already lived a full life yet he said it contains labor and sorrow . . . it will really be worthless if we live a life on our own, apart from God's purposes and plan.

In that case the other complementary passage says,

'So teach us to number our days, that we might live a life of wisdom.' - Psalm 90:12

- wherein we need to pray and ask the Lord that since we know that we have a beginning [physical birth] and an ending [physical death], that between our beginning and ending we might live a life full of wisdom.

We need to include in our prayer that we would not run after things that have no eternal value but rather what we do down here on earth will have an eternal reward in heaven.

Have a pleasant day!
