Riches?

Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed and though you get praise when you do well for yourself — his soul will go to the generation of his fathers, who will never again see light. Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish. ~ Psalm 49:16–20

Aim high! Accomplish something! Be a success! Go for it! Just do it! - this is what the world announces to every man/woman. The many things that life offers will have an end. No matter what you have accomplished, your life will not be spared from going old, from being weak; from being frail. We may say, I'm strong, I eat healthy foods. We may delay the process of growing old but we will still reach that point of no return.

Be cautious is what the Scriptures tells us. We may have the world's riches but when we die we will carry nothing. Even if people are adorable, darling of the masses, popular, beautiful, successful, influential - all these will come to nothing when we die. Death is real; death is our enemy but don't be alarmed. Death was conquered by our Savior, Jesus Christ when He said, 'I am the resurrection and the life.'

To run after all the riches of this world is considered foolishness by God. To run after what pleases God will have everlasting value.

What are we aiming for - God's riches or world's riches?
