Foundation

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against the house, and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell - and great was its fall. Matthew 7:24-27

Jesus is teaching here; He said there are two types of people who hear the word of God the one who acts on them and the one who does not. We are considered wise if we hear and act upon them and we are considered foolish if we do not act upon them. If we will notice both of them experienced the same rain, flood, wind [difficulties, trials, problems] but the difference is that one was built on the rock and the other on sand. If we hear and act upon them it is like building a house on the rock and if we hear and not act upon them, it is like building a house on the sand.

We all know that no one will literally build his house on the sand. You know it for sure that it won't last. It may look beautiful but it does not have a foundation. Although it is much easier to build a house on sand yet it will only be temporary. While building on the rock is hard, it is not easy. Either you have to carve your house in it or cut out a plateau, for us to build our house.

Jesus was saying that following His way is not easy for man. We need determination, commitment, diligence, consistency, and courage to do His will yet the peace that passeth understanding will we obtain. In following His word there is great reward. Most of the things that Jesus said were rejected during His day and how much more today. People want their way and not God's way. We are confronted everyday of the choice to do His way or our way. May we decide to willingly obey Him out of reverence and love to His ways?
